giant hashtag and text How to play: Write something awesome, Use the Hashtag, Toot/Post and Repeat! Insert image: Our #SissyCat examining the tree

After looking at the account in question, Hashtag Games does not support this project. We are opposed to this.

We appreciate the kinds words, Mark.

EDIT: EPILOGUE: The reason why we are against this project is because consensus by regular players in the past was to avoid ranking game plays as to not create competition and to welcome players of all creative levels.  I even added the tagline to the nightly game post, There’s no wrong way to play or interpret the game. @whybird has been a valuable player for a long time and I applaud his efforts to make something for the community. I wish I had made the reasons for opposition clear in the initial post on the subject.

Mark Whybird @whybird@aus.social 20m Hello #HashTagGames lovers - I made a thing! It lives at @HashTagGamesAppreciationBot. Hopefully it will be making its first ever fully automated post shortly… (Sorry about my lack of all artistic skill in making an icon and background… no way will I use AI for actual artistic work though!) First, thank you @paul for the daily joy of your prompts via @hashtaggames - they often make my day! Thanks also to everyone else who sometimes makes a new game, and all the regulars and occasional contributors. I love you all. That said, please be aware that blame for this bot belongs with me. The fact that it exists and whatever bad decisions or mistakes exist within it are my own fault, and should not

    It’s all one link? What’s going on here?

  2. @hashtaggames I’m deeply saddened that people don’t like it. As many of you know I truely love the game and was very, very mindful of how to do something like this and keep it in the fun spirit of the game. Clearly I failed in that endeavour. I’m truely devastated folks see it as a detraction, and I apologise for the offence I caused.

    Whatever else happens I have learned a lot of fun tech… seems I have other lessons to learn too.

    1. @whybird I appreciate the sentiment behind it, and like I said, kind words. Please keep playing. When I moved to a dedicated website for games, I too was going to add features for the games, like ranking, best of, etc, and was met with resistance, as was other ranking and automated accounts that came along. overall, game players don't want anything to do with automated activity, ranking, etc., not even from the games themselves.

      Congratulations on your project, though, and the skills to create it.

      I wouldn't be opposed to posting which game tag did the best overall for the week, month, quarter, etc, the game tag itself and not any game play specific activity

      @hashtaggames

    2. @whybird @hashtaggames Sorry I was a bit curt. I don't think you were badly intentioned, but you weren't aware of how strongly people feel about this and triggered people's defenses.

  3. @hashtaggames Can I ask why? As far as I can tell, the bot just lists common posts to the hashtag. Is it about the lack of attribution?

    1. @diazona Past player feedback, as I shared with the bot creator. The community that comes together for the 9PM games wishes not to be ranked by achievement because they want everyone to feel like they can play without competition.

      1. @paul @hashtaggames Ah I see, thanks. It makes sense that people would want to keep any sense of ranking out of it; I agree that any sense of competition detracts from the experience. (Though I personally wouldn't mind the existence of the bot, but that's just me; of course it makes sense to do what's best for the community.)

    2. @diazona @hashtaggames

      Or perhaps the use of "AI" to code it? Or the way it collects people's toots without their permission?
